The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club has become one of Hong Kong’s best known and respected organisations, providing the public with world-class sporting entertainment as well as being the city’s major non-Government community benefactor, now donating more than HK$1 billion a year to charitable and community projects. It has been a part of Hong Kong through good times and bad, sharing the city’s growth and development with its people, and is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for future generations.
The Club has paid much attention to the development of local arts and culture, as well as to heritage conservation. Projects it has supported over the years include arts performances and exhibition, restorations of historic buildings such as The Conservancy Association Centre for Heritage and the conservation and revitalisation of the Central Police Station (CPS) Compound, and the conversion of a vacated factory building in Shek Kip Mei into the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre. The Club also donated to the setting up of other heritage conservation programmes, such as the St James’ Settlement’s Heritage Preservation and Rejuvenation Programme in Wanchai.
Apart from historic buildings, aspects of intangible heritage such as traditional craftsmanship, rituals and festive events are indispensable components of a city’s legacy. The Club’s support for “H.A.D. Walk” provides an excellent platform for the public to gain a new experience of Shamshuipo by participating in a series of exhibitions, design workshops, cultural tours, creative bazaars, community performances and education programmes, and nurtures young people to understand the unique local culture of the district.
