Modeled on a matshed theatre,
the main exhibition area creates a space that encompasses unique Hong Kong cultures at a grass root level. Painted white, and decorated with red lamps commonly used by butchers, the bamboo structure is constructed with traditional building techniques for matshed theatres. In art, it is called a ‘FOUND Object’. By combining the two elements that are familiar with everyday life on a basic level, it is our hope that their aesthetic values, which stand the test of time, can be presented to the audience.

Why throw away your memories?

 Wear and tear fabrics of the past generations seem to have lost their luster. However, FATINA, a character by Chocolate Rain, is filled with hope and new life. Prudence Mak, founder of Chocolate Rain, gives energy and vitality to old items. All the exhibits are ‘blessings’, hand-made patchwork from old fabrics. These creations carry the theme of environmental protection.

The generation that grew up in the Modernism era tends to get rid of anything or anyone regarded as ‘old’. This is the reason why so many architectures in Hong Kong with collective memory were demolished in the past decade. Facing the dilemma of innovation and preservation, how can we make the right choice?

The old area in Central is going to be redeveloped, and Ip Kar Wai has created a set of fotomo based on the old shops in the district. Follow Ip’s perspective and experience the lifestyle and mood of the old area. (More…)
