Project Concepts
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Heritage X Arts X Design (H.A.D) Walk project is organised by HULU Culture and sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Using the characteristics of the region the project is hosted in as the foundations, the project guides the public into the region through a series of activities, allowing them to have a deeper understanding of the region’s history, architecture, old shops and everyday stories, thus promoting the preservation and inheritance of local histories and cultures. The project is entering its fourth year and will be visiting Tai Po and Fanling after Central and Sheung Wan (2009), Sham Shui Po (2011) and Tsuen Kwai Tsing (2012), discovering the history and culture of the region and integrating it with creative designs of youths.
Over the past few months, students who took part in “Too Proud Creative Scheme” organized by Hulu Culture conducted field trips in Tai Po and Fanling districts, creating a series of artworks under the instruction of experienced traditional handicrafts masters and renowned local artists. Their attentively created artworks reflect the history, culture and neighbourhood bonds of Tai Po and Fanling, which of both still preserve the old industry of fishing and farming and the culture and customs of “Wai” (walled villages) and “Tsuen” (villages), along with a long history and development of “Hui” (local markets). This year the project theme is “Our Home, Our Roots”. Based on the concept of “local creation” and with the inspiration of the local culture and natural heritage in the districts, the artworks are made of the materials and resources from the community, while embracing the traditions and characteristics of these places. Their art pieces await your exploration in our two exhibition venues - Tai Po Lam Tsuen Wishing Square and Fanling Luen Wo Market, in which you can learn more on their charisma.
