Face to Fate
Temple Street is bustling at night, and the stalls with the most unique local flavour are the fortune-tellers’. Fortune-telling has a long and popular tradition among Chinese people. Ms Lam’s installation art uses ancient face-reading illustrations painted on modern day containers, as a response to one of Yau Ma Tei’s characteristics. Within the containers of “Face to Fate”, there is embedded purple light which cannot be touched or captured.

Artist Biography
Lam was born in Hong Kong at 70’s. She received her Bachelor Degree and post graduate diploma (with distinction in teaching) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Master of Fine Arts Degree from the RMIT University.

Lam had held seven solo installation and sculpture exhibitions, including the large scale exhibition “The late version of Shan Hai Jing-works by Lam Yuk Lin” at Shatin Town Hall in 2010. She has been invited to participate into more than 100 exhibitions in Hong Kong and overseas, including at France, China, Mongolia, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Australia and Malaysia, etc.

Lam, whose conceptual and site-specific installation works are often seen in many venues both in Hong Kong and overseas. She specializes in creation with different medium. In recent years her works display special focus on relationships between cultural development and human activities.

Her recent works including “The late version of Shahaijing series” is related to issue of environmental protection and ecology; “The Canopy is crammed with lemons” comments on the government's West Kowloon Cultural District project etc.

Lam was also the recipient of several arts awards, including: “New Vision Award” in 2001 from LCSD, “Most Promising Artist Award”(painting category) in 1995, First Prize in the Painting category in 1996 and First Prize in the Sculpture category in 1997 from the Phillippe Charriol Foundation and Finalist of “Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial”(1998,2005), Selected feature artist of Artist in neighborhood IV IN 2007 ,“40under40” award which being recognized as one of the top young design talent of Greater China Region from PERSPECTIVE magazine(2009) and Award for Best Artist(Visual Arts)by Hong Kong Arts Development Award 2010 etc.

Her publication include ‘The New Renaissance Bronze Age – works by Lam Yuk Lin’ , ‘Lam Yuk Lin – Cultivating Civilization Research Report’, and The Late Version of Shan Hai Jing – works by Lam Yuk Lin (2010) etc which all documenting the various styles of Lam’s works.
