If one were to count the landmarks of Sham Shui Po, Ap Liu
Street must be one of them. As for the iconic spots on Ap
Liu Street, apart from the whole street being filled with old
and new electrical appliances, one must count also “Shia
Wong Hip”, which has been in business here for 35 years.
The current owner is the one and only snake queen in Hong
Kong, Miss Chow Ka Ling, a second generation master of
the trade. She and her four other siblings plus a few staff
work together, to continue with her father’s cherished business.
It is not exaggerating to call Shia Wong Hip an icon,
many tourists to Ap Liu Street have ogled at this snake
restaurant, and quite a few European, American and Japanese
TV stations and magazines have been here to film and
to ask for interviews.
She Wong Hip is located on Ap Liu Street between an electrical
appliance shop and an audio equipment shop, at the
ground level. It specialises in snake thick soup, snake clear
soup, turtle soup, and other snake food items. In recent
years it added a new product line – snakeskin leather
products! If one passes by She Wong Hip, and if Ka Ling
has some spare time, one might make a request to watch
how she charms the snakes.
